My discoveries - Weekend in the Blue Mountains

Image
For the third time in Sydney, I went up to the Blue Mountains. It was my birthday, and I am pretty sure it was the best one. Indeed, I did not expect such an experience, filled with laughter and discoveries. Interestingly enough, we have successfully been able to draw strong conclusions from our individual and group experience. I have talked with several of my cabin mates and discovered that all of them had also a good time. Then, around the fire I realized that most people were having tremendous fun talking and playing with each other, it was so pure and simple (We played cards for hours). While discussing with Jack about what we learned, we were all fascinated by each other’s capacity to stay positive and adapt to the situation in the best way possible, making the most out of it. However, I was under the impression that this phenomenon was just an example of a bigger concept I learned during this trip. It took me several days to finally put this concept into words, as I needed to re...

Thoughts on my Royal National Park Trip

Image
After reading the article, I promised myself that I would use photography to convey meaning, without having to think about the whole photographic process. My second challenge was to meet and befriend a stranger. To the best of my surprise, I accomplished both of these personal goals. Although, I am wondering if the Park's environment helped me foster a specific context, which allowed me to succeed. Indeed, this unique environment triggered interesting phenomena that I can now observe through the pictures I have taken. Eventually, my secondary objective was to implement the skills I have acquired through my hiking experiences in the Blue Mountains (I have already been there twice, but I expect a lot from our next trip). Then, I was aware that this walk did not require much hiking skills, which allowed me to focus on myself, others, and the environment. To be honest, I did not expect such a reflection out of simple pictures. For the first time in my life I used a dynamic angle...

Initial Thoughts

Excited  and intrigued. This is how I felt when I left this week's lecture. Coming from a management background, I expect this unit to challenge my decision-making. I can assume this change, as I have observed interesting group dynamics during class exercises. That phenomenon yields drastically different results: success and failure. I like the fact that we had a discussion to reflect on the strategy and means used by the winning team. This is why I chose Outdoor Education. Indeed, I want to be better aware of my surroundings and the bonds I have. Basically, I want to twist the way I think and to challenge my current point of view on the world. It would allow me to better understand my environment and my relationship to it. Interestingly enough, I have a close relationship to nature, a bond that I have developed through my 10-year experience as a boy scout. I have also been in the Blue Mountains twice, which leaves me curious to deepen my understanding of this impressive place....
